Responsibility is the issue often left out of conversations about crisis and the world's current state of affairs. It seems most common for pundit's to pick a part an issue without ever discussing a solution to the problem. Time is running out on many of the issues still being chewed on by the media and the time has now come for solutions. Our society needs to be asking, who and how can these problems be fixed? Among the largest (and most solvable) issues of the day are centered on the health of the environment. How can issues revolving the environment be resolved and who can get the job done the best?
Resource consumption is the root of much of the evil we've seen in recent years. An overusing of these resources as well as an inappropriate usage of these resources has led to environmental disaster, political upheaval and natural disasters around the world.
The nation of Somalia is currently undergoing a widespread famine due to a shifting in seasonal rain, the American Southeast was hit hard with tornados this last year and Carbon Dioxide levels in the earth's atmosphere continue to rise. All of these events and more are a result of excessive use of natural resources.
Who's to blame for these catastrophes? At this point it's not so much about blame as it is about solutions, who is using large amounts and who has the potential to be reducing large amounts of natural resource? The answer would most obviously be businesses within the corporate world.
One of the popular methods of reducing consumption within the corporate world is through the use of alternative energy. Alternative energy includes everything from solar panels to wind farms and everything in between. Energy alternatives can be defined as methods of energy creation that require little or no sources of carbon based energy.
The less expensive and more efficient method of consumption reduction is through the use of sustainable technologies. Sustainable technologies do not alter the energy systems currently in use, they simply improve the technologies to function at optimal levels while consuming and polluting significantly less. These technologies are often less expensive yet work just as well as and sometimes better than energy alternatives.
A great case study in the area of sustainable technology is a product called waste heat recovery condensing economizers. These heat recovery units allow industrial boilers and appliances to function at 90 to 95% increased efficiency and save upwards of 15% in resource consumption. These units also product water during the condensing process that can be used for a wide variety of things; which saves on resource consumption even more!
A wide variety of options are available for corporations looking to become a part of the solution to a reduction in resource consumption. Our world is faced with a multitude of serious issues that we all need to work at addressing. Corporations have the responsibility and the privilege to lead the way in environmental stewardship whether that is through technologies such as condensing economizer technology or alternative energy.
